Abstract
My purpose in this chapter is to show a glance back at the presence of music in our education since the Greek culture to the present in order to define and analyse the concepts, many of them recurrent, which underlie the use of music as an educational element and its evolution through time. The thought about the educational value of music has been decisive for the development of musical education through the different times and societies and it has conditioned its course.
