Résumé

The article shows how Pasolini uses myth in his film Medea (1969). He opposes Medeas word (archaic, barbarian, magical) to Jasons (modern, civilized and rational). This opposition does not just work in a temporal axe (past / present), but also in a spatial one (Europe / Orient), and expresses Pasolinis criticism to the alienation of European Culture tangible in human relationships, justice, religion, etc. All these aspects are articulated in the film with extraordinary density whose meaning richness will not be extinguished in this analysis proposal.
