Abstract

In this work we studied the physicochemical characterization and selective sequential extractions of trace metals, toxics and nonbiodegradables, and nonmetallic arsenic (As), in soils of the Actopan-Ixmiquilpan zone. The physicochemical characterization was made by determination of soil texture, organic matter and pH, among others, to classify soils. Parallel evaluations of selective sequential extractions of trace metals (Pb, Cd, Cr and Hg) and of nonmetallic As, following the scheme of Tessier et al. (1979) were made, with the purpose of correlating the characteristics of these soils with the time of irrigation, which has been done with black waters for all but 20 years (for this zone). In general, one fundamental finding was a direct correlation of the time of irrigation with the content of organic matter and an appreciable accumulation of Pb and Cr, that can carry problems to the more long term through contamination of cultivations.
