Abstract

The economy of Castilla y León, both before and during the crisis, has followed a less favorable way than in the whole of Spain. One of the consequences is the insufficient GDP per capita, which is the result of the low productivity and the permanent difficulty to create jobs. Besides, the lack of jobs is the cause of one of the worst problems for the region, the emigration, and the subsequent depopulation. This, and other historic lacks have grown with the crisis, and are some of the challenges that the Community has to tackle now. This article explains and clarifies these challenges, and expounds some of the responses that can be given, from the perspective of the Strategy Europe 2020.
