Abstract

Age is considered a prognostic factor in breast cancer and its independent value has been the subject of numerous studies. A study was done on 156 women with invasive breast carcinoma under 45 years in the health area of Palencia during the period 1999 to 2013. The age and stratified age (over and under 40 years) shows association with recurrence variable (p= 0.015 and p=0.03 respectively). Patients with recurrence have lower age of diagnosis and dominate the age group under 40 years. Stratified age variable shows impact in terms of disease-free survival without obtaining meaningful data for overall survival. A multivariate analysis was performed using Cox models in which age is a protector for recurrence of breast cancer in our series factor, so that each year more than patient age at diagnosis confers a reduction in risk of recurrence 10% and 8% at 5 and 10 years, respectively.
