Resumo
Children are the sector of the Spanish population most affected by the consequences of the financial crisis. The complex nature of poverty goes far beyond the scarcity of material resources, as this deprivation directly affects the fundamental rights of the younger ones, a vulnerable social group. Mass media are perceived by social organisations as reliable sources of information and as potential allies in order to raise awareness and achieve social changes. This research aims to explore how third-sector organisations evaluate the journalistic coverage of child poverty, conducting four in-depth interviews with professionals in charge of communication departments and tasks within NGOs focused on this issue. Their views point to a predominance of superficiality and anecdotic content against thorough approaches to a complex reality, falling too often in sensationalism and stigmatisation
