Abstract

One of the aspects that modern historiography finds more interesting is the formation of the Spanish monarchy to its full constitution as a state. In this line of thought, from the perspective offered by the career of Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba, this article analyzes the political changes introduced by the Catholic Monarchs in the structures of the new monarchy. That absolutely modern military vocation of the Great Captain wouldn’t have been possible in previous political conditions, though it wasn’t out of the medieval context in which his lineage unfolded. It was therefore necessary to address there form of the institutional apparatus in the context of the end of the War of Granada, with the Casa de Aguilar as the framework of that Andalusian complex reality.
