Turkey has been an “imperfect democracy”. Its accession process to the European Union is full of great obstacles. The main one is the conflict between secularism and islamism. The progress in the respect of fundamental human rights has stalled. The no respect for freedom of expression remains the main problem. The process of re islamization of Turkey impedes theprogress of accession to the European Union.
