Zusammenfassung
After a brief introduction to the problem of the explanation of consciousness, we approach the examination of the concept of naturalistic explanation (as set forth in Juan Arana’s "La conciencia inexplicada") and why on this concept consciousness is inexplicable. We defend then the need for a broader concept of explanation: we need to understand or illuminate consciousness by means of some cognitive resource, since it is so important in our understanding of what we are as humans. Aristotelian metaphysics provides useful resources and is not incompatible with Arana’s proposal.
