Laburpena

Huerta del Rey is a residential housing estate in Valladolid consisting of apartment blocks surrounded by green spaces. It has attained a degree of national prestige (1950s-1990s) and today is close to the paradigm of the green city promulgated by the modernist movement.Although its development has been relatively well documented, the question of how the creation of this “green” landscape was represented has received little research attention. We must examine the original sources for each stage to find the plans or uncover the construction of the various narratives behind this shared abstract objective. The conception, representation and placement of green spaces generally forms part of a somewhat neglected discipline in Spain. However, in Huerta del Rey, its importance was recognised by knowledgeable and committed professionals, who created a design with a wealth of nuances, despite not being the result of a pressing, cohesive dialogue. The power of the greenway leaps into view among loss, omissions and delays.
