Laburpena

One of the leaders of the restoration of the Spanish monarchy, Santiago Alba, was fiercely persecuted by the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, who forced him into exile from Spain immediately after the coup d'état of September 1923. Presented as a symbol of corruption and the tyrannical practices of the former regime, the dictator's hostility was related in particular to the minister's out-and-out defence of the superiority of civil power. Primo de Rivera's dictatorship created a special court responsible for investigating Santiago Alba's patrimony and business. This irregular activity ended with the staying of proceedings by the Supreme Court. The information generated became part of the Supreme Court Archive and, as a result, part of the documentation deposited in the Archivo Histórico Nacional (National History Archive).Consulting these collections is of utmost interest when studying the economic aspects of the work carried out by Santiago Alba, who has been analysed essentially from a political viewpoint.
