Abstract

In April 1916, two Spanish journalists –Enrique Fajardo (alias Fabián Vidal) and the Marqués de Valdeiglesias– and the Guatemalan writer Enrique Gómez Carrillo toured the battle front in occupied Belgium during two weeks. They had been invited by the British Government. As soon as they returned from their trip, they published their testimony in hispanic newspapers. Their impressions and experience's discursive representation had many common ground –they had visited the same places and had gone through the same experiences–, but all of them were able to communicate a personal view of the war. The analysis of this chronicles interesting corpus allows to understand the many nuances –ideological, literary, or rhetorical– of war writing.
