Abstract

In recent years, transparency has become a basic element of contemporary democracies (Monavarian et al., 2016). Journalism, which has traditionally been known as the fourth power in Western democracies, is one of the disciplines most influenced by transparency and open data in the 21st century. This work explores the perception that journalists have about transparency in Spain and analyzes the use by these professionals. It also studies their assessment about transparency of different institutions and the usefulness of these open data for them. For this purpose, we have carried out questionnaires to Spanish journalists distributed throughout the country. The results show a negative opinion about the current regulations and a limited use of data by these professionals.
