Abstract

Justification. Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSA) and its potential link with cancer has generated widespread interest in recent years. Objec-tive. The main objective is to know and compare the incidence rate of tumors in patients with OSA comparing to the general population. Methodolo-gy. Retrospective study of a cohort of patients diagnosed with OSA between 2004 and 2008 in a health area, monitoring until 2014. Main results. Of the 1239 subjects, 94 were diagnosed with incident cancer. Compared to the general population over 18 years, the incidence rate was similar among men with OSA (SMR 1.06, 95% CI 0.84-1.32) and slightly lower in women (RME 0.90; CI 95% 0.50-1.63). Conclusion. By adjusting the incidence rate of cancer in patients with OSA by age and sex, it´s not greater than in the general population.
