Abstract

The article offers a summary of the history of youth work in Spain. After a brief conceptual clarification, three stages stand out: the first one gathers the precedents in the first third of the 20th century; the second one goes through the period of the Franco dictatorship; the third one analyzes the democratic transition and the institutionalization of youth work in Spain. In conclusion, some reflections are provided on the impact of the recent economic and political crisis on youth policies and on the collective action practices of young people.
