Abstract

This research analyses some economic externalities generated by the Metro Line 1 in Panama City. Vehicle congestions in cities produce annual losses of millions of dollars, affecting productivity sensitively. The social benefits of mass transit systems have a positive impact on the dynamics of metropolitan areas. This paper presents results related to the saving of travel times and their economic utility, under various projected scenarios and compared with actual data of passenger mobilization of the first Metro Line in the Central American Region.
