Abstract

ThisresearchanalysesthetreatmentoftheCOVID-19pandemiconthefrontpagesofthenewspapersABC,ElPaís,ElMundo,LaRazónandLaVanguardiaduringthemonthsofFebruary,MarchandApril2020.Theanalysisallowsustocomparesimilaritiesanddifferenceswhileobservingtheevolutioninthisperiod.Contentanalysisisusedtodeterminethespaceandimportanceofthetopicwithinthecovers,aswellastheissuesbeingaddressed,whotheprotagonistsareintheheadlinesorphotographsandthelexicontheyuse.Theanalysisfocusesonhoweventsarecommunicatedwhileuncoveringdifferencesinapproachandstylebetweennationalheadlines.TheresultsandconclusionsshowthattheinformationaboutCOVID-19gainsprominenceandtakesupmorespaceonthefrontpagesastheweeksgoby,andgraphicsandinfographicsareincludedastheincidenceofCOVID-19increases.Itcanalsobeseenfromtheanalysisofthecoversthattheissuesaddressedbythenewspapersvaryovertime,asdoesthevocabularyused,whichischaracteristicofeachmedium
