Some researchers and editors of the work of Lope have pointed out the influence that Matteo Gribaldi’s De methodo ac ratione studendi sometimes exerted in his texts. But beyond some explicit references and certain reminiscences, Lope’s debt with the work of Gribaldi has not yet been properly detailed and analysed. The objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of this particular manual of civil law in the production of Lope de Vega and to demonstrate that De methodo became for several years one of his bedside books.
