Abstract

Objective: To determine the ability of preoperative breast MRI to evaluate multifocal and multicentric disease. Material and methods: we included patients diagnosed with invasive breast carcinoma or ductal carcinoma in situ in the Hospital of Our Lady of Grace Zaragoza between January 2010 and December 2013. They all had studies with mammography and / or ultrasound and were operated on the center of diagnosis with the final pathological study as "gold standard”. Results: Breast MRI detected 100 % of multicentric disease with a specificity of 98.68 % and 87.50% of the multifocal disease with a specificity of 100 % in our study. On the other hand, conventional imaging tests detected only the 45% of multicentric disease with a specificity of 100 % and the 0% of multifocal disease. Conclusions: MRI is the best imaging test to evaluate multifocal and multicentric disease.
