Abstract
Spanish authorities have introduced a new law authorising water markets in order to improve the efficiency of this natural resource. This research analyses the socio-economic impact of the hypothetical implementation of this market following multicriteria techniques. The simulation results allow us to establish the amount of water exchange between agents for different prices. These results show that this water policy would not improve the water efficiency for a economic point of view (agricultural income) nor for a social point of view (labour demand in rural areas).
