Abstract
This article is about the ambiguity of the term history and the unavoidable tension it implies. It analyses the destabilizing consequences the linguistic turn has entailed on that discipline and how this turn seems today to hint at a new approach which is going to lie beyond that debate: the discovering of a non-historiographical presence of the past. Against this background, Heidegger's philosophy would take a new current importance. The final part of the text sums up some of its key ideas on history and points to an unexpected affinity with Subaltern Studies' most radical drift.
