Résumé

Fungal endophytes can be recovered from most of plant species and they can greatly affectthe production and nutritive value of pasture. The aim of the study consisted of the isolation andidentification, at a morphotipic level, of the endophytes occurring in the main pasture species growingin dehesas from Extremadura and determining the influence of the host, plant tissue and the locality onthe morphotype richness and diversity. Ten dehesas (five in Cáceres and five in Badajoz) and tenspecimens per dehesa were selected of the following pasture species: Lolium rigidum, Poa annua, Bromusmollis, Hordeum murinum, Trifolium subterraneum, Biserrula pelecinus, Ornithopus compressus and Medicagopolymorpha. The plant material was surface sterilized and then placed in agar plates in order to isolateand identify the endophytes. The locality, host and plant tissue had a significant effect on the obtainedendophytic fungi. Most of the morphotypes were isolated from just one sampling site, having then alocal and restricted distribution. Leaves showed a greater isolate and morphotipic richness than stems. However 20% of the morphotypes were isolated exclusively from stems. Regarding the host, legumesshowed a greater richness and diversity than grasses, especially when the stem was the tissueconsidered.
