Abstract

ίεροθέσιον is a koine neologism whose first testimony appears in the great inscription of the Commagene king Antiochus I, actually referred to the monument built by the king to be honoured after his death. This article deals with the analysis of this word and its exact meaning in the religious context of the royal cult, which also will be useful to illustrate some of the mechanisms employed by the greek language to renove and increase its lexicon.
