Here it is presented a brief review of the research history devoted to the fi rst stages of the Late Prehistory (Neolithic and Copper Age) in the Spanish Northern Meseta. It is shown how the archaeological data has grown since the early 20th Century, so nowadays it off ers an almost continuous sequence that extends along four millennia. Thanks to all that work it is now possible to analyse the processes which led to the development of the fi rst ranked societies of the Duero Valley.
