Abstract
The influence of the Classical authors over the American Founding Fathers has been studied extensively in the scientific literature. This paper presents an overview of the mentioned influence in the particular case of Thomas Jefferson, whose legal and philosophical ideas were affected by Stoicism and Epicureanism. In this respect, a possible evolution of Jefferson’s ideas based on his biographical development is suggested, while also presenting an assessment of the impact of the aforementioned schools, along with Christianism, on Jefferson’s shaping of Natural law.
