Resumen

The notes that follow explore the use of the symbols of "light" and "fire" in Golding's novels. In his first novels he uses major structuring patterns like the tragedy to state the ambiguity of the meaning of these old symbols which are central to Western culture and literature. In his last novels Golding introduces irony, satire and uses farce as the structuring element deconstructing the old meanings, entering in that way in the postmodern trends. The process shows Golding's growth and his artistic evolution.
