Abstract

In this paper we present a model to estimate population densities of whales by means of passive acoustics. We describe here the most frequently used technics and we do a balance of the added information coming from acoustics. We illustrate our method with a practical case: to compute the abundance of blue Antarctic whales around Crozet islands. We use for this a single hydrophone record from April 2003 to March 2004.
