The importance of the Senate is clear. It is one of the institutions which characterized the Roman political and legislative system during all its historical evolution. Given the trascendence of the legal-political system of ancient Rome and the impact of the republicanism, the Roman influence on the establishment of the Senate of the United States is noticeable. The American Senate was formed on the example of the Roman Senate and can be considered as a paradigm of this institution in the modern times.
