Abstract

An imperial constitution, dated back to the reigns of emperors Honorius and Theodosius II, collected in CTh 7,17 under the title «De lusoriis Danuvii» and addressed to Constans, magister militum per Thracias, represents the main legal reference for the analysis of the administrative setup of river frontier patrols in the Eastern Danube area during early 5th century. Based on the mentioned text, it is possible to deduce some of the key features of the fleets and the reorganization of those units in the provinces of Moesia Secunda and Scythia Minor, from a military and administrative point of view
