Abstract
This paper explores the various circumstances that led to social exclusion in Castile in the late Middle Ages. Such circumstances could have affected anybody although women were particularly vulnerable due to their position in society. This was reflected through adultery and violence, to which women were more exposed, both during times of peace as well as war (situations such as rape, together with a number of other forms of aggression which led to the victims social marginalisation). Added to this was the issue of honour and reputation, which may have been lost as a result of any of the above-mentioned circumstances or because of insults or supposed involvement in crimes.
