Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to show a method to integrate inside the forest management an objective that all forest ecosystems perform: the carbon sequestration. The findings of the application of a forest planning model based on linear programming to “Pinar de Navafría” forest are presented. This externality is expressly included as an objective. The results generated by this model show a wide degree of conflict among the diverse objectives considered, especially between the capture of carbon and those usually defined in forest management issues (net present value, volume, etc.).
