Abstract

Characteristic color traces have been analyzed in six tiles by means of a portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) equipment. The pieces, part of the collection of the Diocesan Museum of Huesca, come from the cathedral of this city. The results show the use of classic chromophore elements such as copper for green or cobalt and nickel for blue. The ocher color was achieved with iron; the shades of yellow, with antimony; and the white color, with tin. The presence of lead and tin is generalized in all samples, which is consistent with the use of tin-opacified lead enamel, typical of the maiolica technique.
