Social history and the history of the family have incorporated cultural variables into their interpretive models. These cultural variables help to explain historical processes that occurred within Western society in the modern period. Lately much attention has been paid to the ages that make up the life cycle, especially youth. How can history study youth? Is youth a justifiable field in historical studies? Current historiography tells us that, as a social and historically changeable conditioning, youth can be the object of sociological and historical analysis. First, we develop a demographic analysis of the young Spanish population in the second half of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. Next, we study the behaviours of young people in the family. We compare the rural world with the urban world. Finally, we try to know the intergenerational conflict that practice of marriage caused at the end of the Ancient Regime. The sources we use are diverse: fiscal, notarial and judicial sources between the 18th centuries and the 19th centuries.
