Abstract
A representative collection of metallurgical residues has been collected from the iron smelting sites of Oiola II (Roman Period) and Oiola IV (High and Medium Medieval Period), both located in the iron mining zone of La Arboleda (Trapagaran, Bizkaia). The chemical analysis and metallographies carried out prove the relationship of the samples with the tradicional iron smelting process. They also demostrate the existence of very similar technological levels in both periods.
