Un reino asediado. El impacto de la guerra de los dos Pedros en el reino de Valencia (1356-1369). Estructuras políticas, económicas y sociales

Abstract

La presente tesis doctoral tiene el propósito de estudiar desde aquellas perspectivas posibles el conflicto conocido como la Guerra de los Dos Pedros (1356-1369) en el reino de Valencia, tanto su desarrollo como su impacto. Para ello se ha organizado el presente trabajo en tres partes. La primera de ellas está centrada en el análisis político del conflicto, tanto de los hechos como del porqué de esos acontecimientos. En la segunda parte hemos estudiado tres cuestiones básicas para la defensa del reino, la movilización militar, la fortificación y la vigilancia del territorio. La última parte se ha centrado en estudiar las cuestiones económicas de esta guerra, partiendo de unas estimaciones sobre el coste del esfuerzo bélico para analizar luego cómo respondieron a este reto los agentes implicados, desde el rey a los municipios. Esta guerra, en definitiva, impulsó importantes transformaciones en la sociedad valenciana, especialmente políticas y económicas, aunque también demostró los problemas de las estructuras militares del reino. The present doctoral thesis has the purpose of studying from those possible perspectives the conflict known as the War of the Two Pedros (1356-1369) in the kingdom of Valencia, both its development and its impact. For this, the present work has been organized in three parts. The first one is focused on the political analysis of the conflict, both of the facts and of the reasons for these events. In the second part we have studied three basic questions for the defense of the kingdom, military mobilization, fortification and surveillance of the territory. The last part has focused on studying the economic issues of this war, first making estimates of the cost of the war effort and then analyzing how the agents involved responded to this challenge, from the king to the municipalities. This war, in short, promoted important transformations in Valencian society, especially political and economic, although it also demonstrated the problems of the kingdom's military structures.
