Abstract

The "Dance of the Seven Veils" is one of the most recognizable musical numbers of "Salome" (Strauss, 1905), but also one of the most troublesome. To the vocal demands of the leading role must be added the difficulty involved in interpreting an explicitly sensual dance. Through the information located in the general press and specialized magazines, this research reveals how critics and audiences have received the different choreographic, costume and stage solutions used in said number in the productions represented in Spain throughout the 20th century, in which the composer's instructions have not always been respected.
