Influencia de los factores clínicos y sociodemográficos en la calidad de vida de personas infectadas por el VIH

Resumo

Objetives: Health related quality of life (HRQL) is a new clinical marker used in the assessment of chronic illness. The aim of this investigation was to describe clinical and sociodemographic factors most influential in HRQL in HIV infected people. Methods: A cross-sectional study over 150 patients in a tertiary hospital. HRQL data were collected by the MOS-HIV, a diseasespecific questionnaire for HIV people. Research team designed a specific template to get clinical and sociodemographic data. Results: Almost three-quarters of the population were men. 64% of patients had between 1 to 4 symptoms while 21% had 5 or more. Women got worse scores in Pain and Cognitive Function domains. Stage C patients had better scores for 3 of the 11 domains of HRQL. Asymptomatic patients had better scores on all domains. Conclusions: We documented a strong association between MOS- HIV quality of life domains and HIV related symptoms. The assessment of HRQOL in this population can help us to detect problems that may influence the progression of the disease.
