Resum
Machine‐to‐machine (also known as M2M) provides wireless data connectivity for the enterprise segment. It allows automation of processes involving remote devices, significantly improving productivity. Beyond pure connectivity, customers managing very large numbers of lines can appreciate a management portal. As opposed to consumer space, special SIM can be embedded directly in the device, reducing costs and simplifying significantly the provisioning. Cellular has emerged over legacy proprietary technologies for providing connectivity; however, a long tail of devices cannot be served with current cellular standards due to power consumption, coverage, or cost constrains. As a result, several new entrants with Low‐Power‐Wide‐Area technologies are emerging, and cellular is trying to respond with new versions of their standard. Besides connectivity, vertical applications for different sectors can be bundled on top of it. Internet of Things is an umbrella term for M2M that could disrupt the landscape.
