Abstract

In order to establish the influence of the substituents in the title reactions 39 examples of compounds such as (III) are prepared. The isoxazolium salt acidity is independent of the nature of the C-5 aryl group. However, the final yield of arylidene derivatives depends on the aldehyde structure. The yields are higher for aldehydes containing electron-donating substituents.
