Resumen

The feasibility of exploiting solar energy in Castilla y León, Spain, is investigated in this study. The temporal and the geographical solar resources in the region and their trends were studied over a seven year period. Maximum, minimum, and average values of monthly and annual global horizontal radiation and the clearness index were calculated from the data recorded at forty-six weather stations. The experimental data sets were then filtered and validated using the procedures indicated by WMO. The region is considered to have a high solar potential, with high values of global irradiation and a low percentage of cloudy days.
