Abstract

Haematuria is a frequent reason for consultation in primary health care. In patients over 50 years, up to 20% of haematuria are caused by bladder tumours. Two male ex-smokers in their 80s were assessed. One of them went to the doctor due to episodes of macrohaematuria and the other patient, who was asymptomatic, showed microhaematuria in two consecutive control analysis. Bladder ultrasound scan can even reach 95% sensitivity in the detection of bladder tumours, so an ultrasound scan in health centres helps to detect warning signs, speeding up the management and treatment of multiple pathologies.
