Resumo

Abstract: The present Thesis is entitled "Journalism and Military Offensive in the Colonization of Morocco: the Press of Spanish Protectorate (1859-1956)". The focus of the study has been placed on the relationship between the written press and the military aspirations in the Spanish protectorate era in northern Morocco. It has concentrated on a period from the war of Tetouan from 1859 until the independence of Morocco in 1956. The research has also aimed at the diagnosis of the usage of media platform at that time; and explored the colonial ambitions in deploying these media productions; and the impact it has on the Spanish and Moroccan public opinion during a century. In this dissertation, different media matters and components have been analyzed in order to collate the useful data for our research. Therefore, we used a multidisciplinary approach in which we made use of the concepts and methodologies from the New History, The Renaissance Narrative and the New Political History; which enabled us to understand the relationship of historical events that involved both the Spanish and Morocco societies. This approach also proved significantly effective to decipher the aspects that influenced the selection of specific sites whereby particular written media subjects have been disseminated.
