Abstract

Subtropical cyclones are low-pressure atmospheric systems characterized by having a hybrid thermal structure, halfway between tropical and extratropical cyclones. Due to both the scientific interest and the socio-economic impact they cause, these systems have attracted a major interest in research for the improvement of their numerical modeling, which has had an impact on their prediction accuracy. This thesis aims to deepen in the knowledge of the dynamic and thermal processes that take place during the genesis and intensification of this type of cyclone, aswell as the characteristics that define them. The various studies that make up this memory are focused on the analysis of a typical subtropical cyclone, specifically, the one developed in October 2014 in the vicinity of the Canary Islands. Concerning this particular cyclone, very detailed information is available due to the damage it caused on Tenerife Island, being widely reflected in the media. Additionally, the AEMET (Spanish State Meteorological Agency) has provided tools and convective diagnostic fields to characterize this phenomenon...
