Resumo

Over last 150 years, haut ecouture has progressively formed one of the most influential visual tales in the contemporary world by building indetity images., It was the dressmaker Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895) who first devised an exclusive formula to adapt the design of items of clothing to the personalitu of the wearer. After him, Paul Poiret (1879-1944), his most brilliant disciple, created a complete and expresive tale of the magnificient potential that is treasured not only by haute couture, but also by modern fashion, in wich he is considered a pioneer. Paul Poiret established iun under two decades (between 1905 and 1920) the codes that now rule and communicate the fashion universe in the most varied of environments. In order to achieve this, he took advantage of his passion for the art world and of his enthusiasm for social life. The first fashion catalogues, the first European and American fashion shows, the first edition of a perfume associated with a company, the grand parties, the promotional trips and, finally, the design of private locations by decorating interiors were all implemented by this authentic visionary of communication in fashion. For these reasons, this paper will study the way in which Paul Poiret established all these canons that still prevail nowadays, and which make the world of fashion intelligible.
