Résumé
Studies of imperial practice have paid limited attention to how it affected its populations, who appear as mere receptors of a politics that was alien to them. The renewal of political, economic and administrative history has highlighted the importance and prominence of the local level in the construction, management and evolution of hegemonic projects. It is necessary to incorporate the role of the inhabitants of the Catholic King's dominions in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas in the analysis of how imperial hegemony was possible, how it evolved and how it was appropriated at each moment by these societies. In this way, it will be possible to understand the strengths, limits, permanence and effective options of an empire made by people.
