Abstract

The theories around the fantastic tend to discard its insertion in lyrical poetry. This article analyses the reasons for this impossibility by investigating the theoretical roots of lyric and the fantastic. Both are studied in order to show the incompatibility between them. For the lyrical poems that share similarities with fantastic literature and explore the mystery we suggest the term “the mysterious”. The main characteristics of this lyric “species” (which is to be found in the literary “genre” of lyrical poetry) are “lyrism” and Heimliches (feeling save in everyday life despite the many secrets we still have not discovered about it), and therefore opposite to the Freudian Unheimliches.
