Zusammenfassung

The aquatic resources exploitation by prehistoric populations is a practice attested from several studies carried out in different archaeological fields (archaeomalacology, ichthyofauna, bone and lithic industries, rock art or ethnoarchaeology). However, these investigations do not allow to know the weight of these foods in the diet of prehistoric human groups. For them, stable isotope analysis of carbon (13C/12C) and nitrogen (15N/14N) provide a complementary framework that helps to know the value of these resources in the diet. This paper aims, to know the potential of this methodology for the reconstruction of paleodiets, and to provide a review of the consumption of marine, lake and river resources in different Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic groups of the European Atlantic façade through isotopic studies already published.
