Laburpena

Positioning accurately and safety a train is nowadays a great challenge. This paper is focused on the inertial sensors and its applicability in railway safety critical odometry system as a way of train localization. The result is a survey of the techniques developed in land vehicles and specifically in railway to date under the investigation point of view. Based on this survey, an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) integration scheme is proposed and discussed as well as a general odometry system is superficially showed. Finally the IMU sensor requirements are listed and justified for railway environment taking into account the track geometry, vehicle dynamics and the surrounding of the train.
