Abstract
We analyzed data sourced from the International Olympic Committee to provide insights into the participation and performance of the Spanish team sports at the Summer Olympic Games. Notably, in the men's category, basketball, handball, field hockey, beach volleyball, and water polo have consistently featured in over 50% of the editions. Conversely, in the women's category, only field hockey has surpassed this participation threshold. Male teams have consistently earned medals in every edition since 1980, except in Seoul 1988, showcasing excellence in sports such as football, water polo, basketball, and field hockey. Over the last three editions, women secured four medals: two silvers in water polo, one in basketball, and a bronze in handball. The observed results may be attributed to economic and sociocultural development and event communication initiatives since 1980, also coupled with athlete support programs since 1992.
