Abstract

The system of voluntary reporting of adverse reactions is the most universal and method of pharmacovigilance and involves the collection and subsequent communication of those unwanted reactions may occur following the use of drugs in humans. It was implemented in 1982 in Spain and 1986 in Castilla y León. The aim of this study is to nurse participation in this field. We performed a retrospective observational study of notifications searches made in the period 1986 to November 18, 2010 in the community of Castilla y León in FEDRA 2.0 (Spanish Pharmacovigilance Adverse Facts). There have been a total of 7537 notifications in this period, of which, 237 (3%) were made by nurses. The years 2009, 2004 and 2002, and the provinces of Ávila, Palencia and Valladolid were the nurse had more activity, being larger in health centers, and emergency services. In conclusion, the role of nurses in the pharmacovigilance of Castilla y León has existed and exists, but it is minimal. It is necessary to strengthen such training and awareness campaigns
